HRC American Dreams Tour - Voices for Equality Storytelling Training
Saturday, September 20, 2025 (2:00 PM - 5:00 PM) (CDT)
Description
Our community is under attack and now is the time to raise our voices and fight for equality. Learn how to effectively tell your story!
Personal storytelling has always been a critical tool in our fight for LGBTQ+ equality, whether talking to family members, classmates, co-workers, or elected officials. Now more than ever, we need to refocus on the basics of telling our stories in ways that bridge misunderstanding and help to shift the narrative about who we are. This training does just that.
What Is This Training? Voices for Equality is a 3-hour, in-person workshop that empowers LGBTQ+ advocates and allies to change hearts and minds through the power of personal storytelling. This training connects lived experiences to a broader movement for equality—building empathy, shifting public opinion about LGBTQ+ identities and experiences, and strengthening community leadership.
Participants will: Learn impactful storytelling tools to effectively communicate their lived experiences. Build confidence in sharing powerful, authentic stories that resonate. Develop and align shared narratives to shift public perception and foster understanding. Strengthen collective action in support of the Human Rights Campaign’s mission for LGBTQ+ equality.
Through interactive exercises and guided reflection, participants will leave with a compelling personal narrative and the skills to use it as a tool for advocacy and change. The training emphasizes authenticity, emotional safety, and resilience—encouraging stories rooted in reflection, not fresh pain.
Who Is It For? This training welcomes LGBTQ+ advocates, allies, and community members—whether experienced or new to HRC—who are passionate about equality and engaging in their communities. Participants will reflect diverse identities and levels of storytelling experience. Each training includes local leaders from the community who will assist with small group work and help create a welcoming, supportive environment. While this training is currently provided in English, we are also developing a Spanish language curriculum.
